Handball’s Champions League is an elite competition for the best club sides on the continent. It’s a format that we’ve seen in other sports and it’s been successfully adopted by the EHF to become of the most important events on our handball sportsbook.
If you’re looking for markets on the Champions League, here’s what you need to know.
Casual observers might be surprised to learn that this tournament has been around for a long time. The original European competition was established in 1955 and, after a rebranding and change of format, the Champions League was born in 1993.
The current editions allow for 28 teams to take part and those sides represent countries from all over Europe. The tournament begins with a group stage which sees the 28 clubs separated into four different pools. Every side within those sections will play each other on a home and away basis and, when that schedule concludes, the best performing teams progress to the playoffs and the knockout rounds.
Those knockouts start with a Round of 16 and the games are played over two legs until, eventually, we finish the Champions League with a one-off final. It’s a lengthy tournament and that gives us scope for plenty of market options.
Betting options start before the Champions League has begun with an outright market in place for the overall winner. Long range, ante post picks could offer greater value but that bet will remain until our champion has been crowned.
Match betting arrives after the draw for the groups has been made and the fixture list has been declared. Along with those moneyline picks for each team, there will be a regular host of prop bets such as total goals and winning margin to complete a great package for this prestige event.
