Ligue 1 is the elite division of professional soccer in France and it’s a competition that contains many of Europe’s top clubs. In the modern day, the league has been dominated by Paris Saint-Germain but it remains competitive with a number of teams chasing the leaders and competing for domestic silverware.
The current format within Ligue 1 allows for 20 sides to take part and every club will play each other once on a home and away basis. At the end of those 38 games, the champions are declared, European places are decided and the worst performing teams will drop into the second tier.
There is no postseason but there is a single relegation playoff involving the team that finishes third from bottom of the table.
At the start of the 2020/21 campaign, Paris Saint-Germain went into the new year on the back of seven Ligue 1 titles in eight seasons. Their overall tally of nine championships is one behind the current overall leaders, St Etienne. Bettors can speculate on whether PSG will overtake that mark in the future but there are many markets available outside of the overall winner.
The set up within Ligue 1 allows for a number of outright betting options including overall champion, together with options for relegation and the European places. When the fixture list is confirmed, moneyline odds will start to appear for all matches and result betting will continue right through to the end of the season.
Handicap betting will also be listed and games will attract a wide set of side markets including Total Goals, Winning Margin, plus First and Last Goalscorer. Our live sportsbook will also be active during the Ligue 1 campaign so there’s plenty of choice for any bettor looking to get involved with France’s top division.
