The Championship is the second tier of English professional football and the teams involved are all aiming to get promoted into the Premier League. Many of the sides within the division have previously played at the top level so this is a highly competitive tournament containing some very familiar clubs.
24 teams play in the current Championship set up and, during a long regular season, each side will play 46 games. When that sequence comes to an end, the team at the top of the table are crowned champions and they, along with the club that finishes in second place, will be promoted into the Premier League.
At the wrong end of the table, the sides occupying the bottom three places will be automatically relegated into the third tier.
The season isn’t quite finished as the clubs who finish in third through to sixth place will now enter the Championship playoffs. After two semi finals, the winning teams in each game will progress to a one-off match at Wembley Stadium. Described as the richest fixture in English football, the winner will take the final promotion place while the losing side remains in the Championship and has to pick themselves up after a disappointing end to the campaign.
The Championship playoff final is something of a focal point for the betting community but all matches will have odds attached throughout the season. Result betting will be complemented by handicap options while a comprehensive selection of side markets will offer team related bets, and picks for individual goal scorers.
Championship games also receive extensive coverage in the live markets for those that like to stake in play. Competitive odds complete the package and it all adds up to a perfect betting platform for English football’s second tier.
