The Eredivisie promotion/relegation playoffs begin on Thursday with two places in the Eredivisie up for grabs.
Roda and NEC finished in the bottom three of the Eredivisie and will now fight for their survival against the best the Eerste Divisie has to offer.
That’s Helmond Sport, MVV, Cambuur, Emmen, NEC and Volendam. It’s going to be a fast and furious playoff for those two golden spots in the Dutch top flight.
Here are all the best Dutch betting odds for the promotion/relegation playoffs.
Helmond v Roda
Helmond beat Almere City 6-2 on aggregate to book their place in round two of the playoffs. They finished 13th in the Eerste Divisie — the lowest-ranked club to make the playoffs. Goals have not come easy for Helmond and it was a shock that they comfortably beat Almere. But Roda are a different proposition.
Roda finished the season with a demoralising 3-0 defeat to Vitesse than confirmed their place in the playoffs. But they made a valiant effort to stay up. Three wins in six, plus one draw, shows they have spirit and goals in their arsenal. Abdul Ajagun’s displays from midfield will be key for Roda but they should see off Helmond by a goal or two on Thursday and then again in the reverse leg.
Volendam v Breda
This could be a tight affair. Volendam and Breda finished sixth and fifth respectively and each beat the other at home during the regular Eerste season. A draw here is priced at 3.50 but the home side to win/draw on the Double Chance at 1.38 is another good option.
MVV Maastricht v Cambuur
Cambuur were the third best team in the Eerste Divisie this season and gained automatic qualification to the second round of the playoffs. They’ve built their campaign on a frugal defence that has kept them in matches where other teams would have fallen away. At home Cambuur have been excellent, losing just three games all season. But away from home it’s a different story and that gives MVV a chance here.
MVV beat Cambuur 2-1 at home in the regular season and are 12.50 to repeat that scoreline. It will be tough — Cambuur are certainly the better side and their defence has improved as the campaign has progressed. A draw at 3.60 is not a bad shout.
FC Emmen v NEC
NEC ended their dreadful run of seven straight defeats wth back-to-back wins at the end of the Eredivisie season. And while those wins were not enough to save them, they will give them confidence. Unlike previous seasons, the two Eredivisie teams dropping into the playoffs are both in relatively good form. And Dutch football betting fans can expect an Eredivisie win here.
Emmen had an average season and benefited from a disappointing RKC not turning up in the first playoff round. NEC’s odds of 2.20 to win are huge compared to have strong favourites they are. They’re worth backing on this alone. On top of that, Taiwo Awoniyi’s recent goals flurry puts him in contention for a start and the forward has been well rested. He is a good bet to score first.
