Betting on Champions League – Group Stages, First Round

September 12, 2017

The most prestigious and most anticipated competition in football is upon us and we can’t put our excitement into words with how thrilled we’re feeling. The early stages are the best times to be betting on the Champions League as the big dogs will undoubtedly devour their prey. We got some colossal clashes ahead of us in the opening day and millions of champions league betting fans will be glued to their TV screens to discover whether their bankroll will be increasing tonight. We’ll take a closer look at the biggest games that are happening to discover which bets are the best to increase your chances of making a profit.

Bet on Barcelona vs Juve

This clash has final written all over it. Fortunately for us, we get to see these giants battle it out on two legs and it should be nothing short of entertaining. Barcelona are the clear favourites, with odds priced at 1.65 to beat the Italian Champions. The odds are misleading, as Juve still have one of the best defensive back lines in Italy, even without the services of Leonardo Bonucci. Juve betting fans will potentially return a good payout should they back their team, as odds are set at 5.70 to beat the Catalan side.

The first half might be a little cagey, with no teams likely to take any unnecessary risks. However, Barcelona will want to take control of the game from the start, dominating possession and looking for an opening to the get the goal. Juve will inevitably press forward should they concede early, which fits perfectly in Ernesto Valverde’s plans.

Betting on goals might be a viable option, with both teams to score set at 1.68. We can’t imagine Messi not getting his name on the scoresheet in such a huge match. Odds for the Argentinian forward to score at any time are set at 1.89.

Double chance betting could be a safer option for those die hard Juve fans who back their team no matter what, having odds of 2.65 for Juve not to lose.

Bet on Roma vs Atletico Madrid

Both these teams are constantly in their respective champions’ shadows in their domestic leagues, always finishing within the top three. Unfortunately, Group C is this year’s ‘Group of Death’, with Chelsea eyeing top spot. It’s not looking promising for Qarabağ, the other team in the Group C, although they have the capability of upsetting some results.

Roma will step onto the pitch as slight underdogs with odds of 2.90 to beat Simeone’s men. There is no doubt that this clash will be a very physical one and we expect the referee to show a yellow card or two. If you’ve never bet on yellow and red cards before, give them a quick gander to get familiar with the odds and the bets available. Because of their high odds, betting on cards are ideal to combine in your accumulator bet, as your potential increase significantly.

Daniele De Rossi of AS Roma

This is the first time these two sides are crossing paths and with both teams being on par on paper, we should be in for a thrilling match. Odds for Atletico to emerge victorious are currently set at 2.68 and 2.28 if the game finishes in over 2.5 goals.

Bet on Tottenham vs Dortmund

The last time these two sides met was around a year and a half ago in the Europa League and Dortmund proved to be too strong for the North London side, winning both at home and on the road. However, every game is different and there’s no doubt that Tottenham made some serious strategic changes to deal with the German side.

Tottenham are the favourites with odds of 2.35 to collect all three points, but if you’re looking for a little security to your bet, try double chance as odds are set at 1.38. While not incredibly lucrative, the double chance bet on Tottenham is worth adding to any accumulator to boost the potential return.

Expect goals in this meeting. Borussia have made the aggressive style their trademark, as did the Spurs, and the clash has the markings to go down as one of the classics in European football.

FP Harry Kane

Both teams to score is priced at 1.50 and 2.50 if one (or none) team scores. We can’t imagine Harry Kane not being involved in any goals that might occur and scoring a goal at any time will potentially return £20.60 from a £10 bet.

Borussia Dortmund have seven injuries ahead of the Tottenham match. Five players have already been confirmed out of the Champions League game. Manager Petr Bosz is without Marco Reus (ankle ligament), Raphael Guerreiro (ankle), Andre Schürrle (muscular), Erik Durm (hip) and Sebastian Rode (ankle).
