Bet on Eredivisie — Feyenoord out of the title race?

October 26, 2017

Dutch football betting fans can be forgiven for thinking the Eredivisie title race is now between just Eindhoven and Ajax.

Feyenoord’s shock 4-1 defeat at Ajax last weekend has seen the defending champions slip to fifth in the table.

And, more importantly, they are now EIGHT points behind league leaders Eindhoven after nine games played.

It’s been a tricky start to the season for Feyenoord, who dominated the Dutch top flight last season and earned plenty of football betting experts some healthy winnings on their title bets.

But now it’s surely between Eindhoven and Ajax. Heading into Week 10, we look at the best bets in the Eredivisie.

Bet on Ajax

Ajax remain five points behind Eindhoven in the Eredivisie title race but at least they secured the win at Feyenoord last weekend. The 4-1 victory was a display in high-tempo game management. Kasper Dolberg is back at his best and Ajax have now scored exactly four goals in their last three league games. Because they don’t have European distractions the Lancieri can focus solely on winning the title this season.

Ajax host Willem II on Saturday, with their opponents enjoying something of a renaissance in the league. Willem II have won their last two Eredivisie games and three of their last five. Take into account they lost all four of their first fixtures and this is a huge upturn in results!

Fran Sol’s return to goalscoring form has been massive for Willem II. He has scored in all three of their victories this season. Ajax, with their striking prowess, should have enough to comfortable beat Willem II by a goal or two. But it’s worth backing Willem II to get a goal in Amsterdam and continue this positive trend. Both teams to score is priced at 11/10.

Bet on Eindhoven

Meanwhile, Eindhoven will look to continue their five-game winning streak when they come up against Vitesse on Sunday. Vitesse are proving a surprise package in the Eredivisie this season and sit third in the table, a point off Ajax and six behind Eindhoven. They are not expected to win the title (priced at 40/1) and an upset here looks unlikely.

For despite Vitesse’s excellent run of form, they have very little to boast of from recent clashes with Sunday’s opponents. Eindhoven have won each of their last six meetings with Vitesse without conceding a single goal. Three victories have been via a 1-0 scoreline, the other three 2-0. Bet on either of those (both priced at 17/2) as the smart weekend punt.

Bet on the Eredivisie

Elsewhere in the Eredivisie, Utrecht face a difficult encounter with relegation betters NAC. Utrecht will hope NAC’s three-match losing streak puts them in favour of victory on Sunday. But defensively it is Utrecht who are the weaker side and NAC could exploit that. Utrecht have conceded 16 goals in five games, NAC just five over the same period. Granted, Utrecht are finding the net at the other end but NAC have proven capable of grinding out results this term. Both teams to score in both halves is priced at 13/1.

Feyenoord, fresh off their thumping from Ajax, travel to rock-bottom side Roda on Saturday. Roda may have won two games on the trot before last weekend’s thrashing at Twente, but they are still massive underdogs here. Back Feyenoord to win at 3/10 on your combination bet.

Finally, Heerenveen host AZ in the last game of the weekend on Sunday. Heerenveen were stunned 4-0 at home to Vitesse last week — a result that proved just how big the gulf in class is between the two sides. AZ are two points above Heerenveen and will also want to set down a marker here. AZ ended a three-game winless streak with a 3-0 result over Utrecht last weekend, while Heerenveen have lost three league outings on the bounce. An away win is priced at 11/8.
