Punter turns $100 into $6200 with winning quaddie

February 6, 2018

Our Punter of the Week is CS, from Adelaide, who transformed a ‘greenback’ ($100 note) into more than six grand after landing the quadrella at Newcastle gallops on Saturday afternoon.

Leaving odds-on favourite She’s Demanding out of his selections in the opening leg (Race 5) our punter would have been delighted to see one of his two picks, the Mark Newnham-trained Apache Junction ($4.20) find a good kick on the corner to lead virtually all of the way.

With all bar 100/1 shot Flymia Miss included in his second leg (Race 6) our punter’s fortunes were looking up as another odds-on fancy, Grasslands, didn’t fire a shot in the final furlong, a sound ride from Chad Lever allowing $8.50 shot Paris for Me to streak away for a nice win and enhance the dividend.

$1.95 shot Angel’s Boy didn’t let CS down in Race 7, breaking his maiden status with a hard-fought win under Keagan Latham to leave him sitting pretty given that he had included the ‘field’ as the final leg of the quaddie and was now guaranteed a return.

Our worst fears were realised in the finale with $51 shot Marman, winless for more than a year and coming off a 13-length defeat in the Tuncurry Cup, producing a powerful burst to claim the prize having sat last on the turn.

Applying a unit stake of 50c and having 216 individual combinations (for a total outlay of $108), this last result catapulted the final VicTAB dividend to a more than healthy $12,540 and ensured a return of $6,270 for his troubles.

Nice work CS!
