Alabama v Georgia | Tuesday, January 9, Noon (AEDT), Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, Georgia
The SEC has long been the powerhouse conference of College Football and they’ve proved it again with Alabama and Georgia making it through to the National Championship.
Alabama is going for a 5th national title in nine years under super coach Nick Saban, but whoever claims the national title will deliver the conference an phenomenal 9th title in 12 years.
The Tigers are looking to break their own title drought and are aiming to capture their first National Championship since 1980.
It would be a fairytale finale if the hometown Bulldogs were to salute in Georgia but Alabama has its sights set on creating their own fairytale finish.
After missing out on the SEC Championship game, the Crimson Tide controversially made their way into the four-team National Championship playoff before exacting revenge on last year’s champions Clemson in the Sugar Bowl 24-6 to book their place in the title decider.

With Georgia’s dominance on the ground and Alabama’s suffocating defence, the championship decider looms as a likely battle between the Crimson Tide’s feared defence and the Bulldogs’ dynamic rushing.
For the Bulldogs, everything revolves around their two-pronged running game and for the first time in Georgia’s history, they had two running backs; Sony Michel and Nick Chubb (pictured above) rush for more than 1000 yards in a season, making them the most productive rushing tandem in NCAA FBS history.
Michel and Chubb have to contend with the nation’s best defence which Saban himself has described as “ferocious” and “relentless”.
That ferocity, tenacity and relentless pressure was on show for all to see when the Crimson Tide’s defence created two touchdowns in a decisive third quarter against Clemson in the Sugar Bowl.
On offence, a lot of responsibility rests in the hands of quarterback Jalen Hurts (pictured at top) who is a good decision-maker and can execute big plays at the right time.

Georgia’s defence will certainly be tested by Alabama’s measured offence and they’ll have to be better than their Rose Bowl shootout where they allowed the Sooners to reach 38 points.
A lot of the defensive responsibility will fall on the shoulders of Lorenzo Carter, Trenton Thompson and Linebacker Roquan Smith (pictured above).
But as they showed against Oklahoma, the Bulldogs’ best asset is their ‘dogged’ determination and never-say-die attitude, a quality they exhibited in rallying from a 31-14 deficit to take the game to OT.

The Verdict
Bama have had 12 months to think about last year’s heartbreaking defeat to Clemson and the time has arrived for redemption.
Eliminating the Tigers was the first part of their redemption journey and that would be complete with a national title in Georgia.
But the Crimson Tide, who are 6-0 in Georgia since 2014, have a point to prove and their all-conquering defence surely has one big game left in them.
