Caulfield races for the third Saturday in a row with the running of the Victorian Owners and Breeders Raceday.
This day has grown in strength in recent years due to the addition of the rich Vobis Gold Races headlined by The Showdown for the 2YOs which is worth a tick under $1 million.
The track is rated a Good4 and the rail is in the true position which should mean fair and competitive racing.

Race 4 – Vobis Gold Mile 1600m Open
Mr Quickie (1.75) on paper looks the winner but this race could be much more complicated than that.
The small field could force a slowly run race with Iconoclasm (10.00) (pictured at top and in below tweet) dictating and Mr Quickie getting outsprinted by So Si Bon (3.50) or being left with too much to do like he was this day last year when 2nd in the Vobis Gold Heath.
I'm not necessarily in the camp that Mr Quickie won't win but he's certainly not the moral that everyone is hoping.
My advice is to be cautious when betting in this race and respect Iconoclasm who will have been set for this race and will get a comfy lead.

Suggested Bet: Iconoclasm (10.00) (win)

Race 2 – 1400m Bm78
Not often we mention the race of the lowest class of the day in these blogs but feel this one has a few horses going around at the wrong price.
One of those is Jittery Jack (31.00), who has been ticking over nicely after a spell and was close up last start at Bendigo.
He gets in well after the 3kg claim for Maddi Lloyd and now 3rd up he should be fit enough to race right on the speed.
The other is Vungers (34.00) who will improve drastically up to 1400m and be fitter.
Vongole (6.50) (in below tweet) is the horse to beat if he gets luck as he looks to be flying this prep.
Happy enough taking on Spring Choice (5.00) who is 2nd up off a long spell and Dice Roll (6.50) who also may need the run.

Verdict: Vongole on top, Jittery Jack and Vungers over the odds.

Suggested Bet: Vongole (6.50) (win), Jittery Jack (31.00) (win), Vungers (34.00) (win)

Race 6 – The Showdown 1200m 2YOs
Starry Legend (3.30) looks a real talent but this is his biggest test not only from an opposition stand point but from a stamina one as it's his first attempt at 1200m.
He looked all out at Bendigo when winning last time at the 5 furlongs and now an extra 200m to contend with does look a real challenge for this speedster.
Given the rise in distance and added depth to this race I'm opposing him and looking to get him beat.
The three main chances against him I feel are Finance Tycoon (5.00) (in below tweet), Arcaded (3.90) and Literary Magnate (7.00).
The Blue Diamond form has held up big time and Finance Tycoon was a great run in that race when 4th.
He's trialled well since and if that isn't one grand final too many, he will be ultra-competitive.
Arcaded is in the same boat as she's been up along time but James Cummings is a genius and she does get Jamie Kah aboard.
Literary Magnate is the fresh blood, she was dominant when winning at Warrnambool on debut and her times on the clock were outstanding for a filly on debut.

Verdict: Bet against Starry Legend.
Finance Tycoon and Literary Magnate both good prices.

Suggested Bet: Finance Tycoon (5.00) (win), Literary Magnate (7.00) (win)

Race 7 – Bel Esprit Stakes 1100m Listed
Ripper race with Alfa Oro (4.20), Ancestry (5.00), Prophet’s Thumb (8.00), Sword Of Mercy (4.80) all lining up.
Of those runners, think Alfa Oro is the best chance as he was fat first up and needed the hit out.
2nd up now at 1100m looks ideal and if he finds his best he deserves to be favourite.
Sword Of Mercy and Prophet's Thumb both have legitimate winning hopes also with Prophet's Thumb the value of the two mares.
I feel an upset could be brewing in this with Bumper Blast (26.00) the forgotten horse.
He was awesome winning fresh last campaign when running a big figure at 1000m and then he failed poorly at his next two runs.
He's had a nice spell since then and has been trialling up like a very good horse in preparation for this.
At 26-1 plus he is a huge price and simply must be wagered on if betting in the race.

Verdict: Alfa Oro hard to beat.
Bumper Blast a great knock out hope.

Suggested Bet – Bumper Blast (26.00, 6.00) (each way)

The Championships continue at Randwick with four Group 1s on the card.
My tips for those races are below.

Race 5 – Australian Oaks – 7 Bargain (13.00)
Race 7 – Sydney Cup – 2 Southern France (7.50)
Race 8 – Queen Elizabeth Stakes – 2 Sir Dragonet (6.50) (in below tweet)
Race 9 – Queen Of The Turf Stakes – 11 Odeum (6.00)

Good luck to everyone this weekend!
