Wednesday's Geelong Cup (Race 7) promises to the best edition of the race in years with a stellar field accepted for the $400,000 2400m feature.
The Internationals hold the key to the race with 4 of the 10 runners having their first run in Australia including race favourite Ashrun (3.60).
The locals aren't weak though with King Of Leogrance (9.50) (pictured above), Steel Prince (7.50) (in below tweet), Sound (16.00), Creedence (23.00), Entente (18.00and Platinum Invador (21.00) engaged to run.
The only horse in the field who has secured a spot in the Melbourne Cup at this stage is King Of Leogrance who sits 23rd on our list.
The rest will be hoping to win here and get a weight penalty that will see them propel up the order and into the great race.

Track Conditions
Rail is in the True Position with the track rated a Soft5 on Tuesday morning.
Geelong isn't expecting any more rain before raceday, so the track should dry out and maybe touch a Good4.
It's worth noting that on Geelong Cup day in the past it has been an advantage to be on the inside section of the track and race on speed.

Geelong Cup 2400m G3

The Internationals can be hard to line up form wise with our horses and you're taking on trust that they have settled into Australian conditions.
What is evident though is their class with Ashrun Group 1 placed, San Huberto is a Group 2 winner, Skyward was only 2.8 lengths off Anthony Van Dyck and Stradivarius last start and Le Don De Vie is a progressive type who was dominant at Listed level last time out.
Of the four after watching their replays and assessing their form, I've landed with Ashrun as the clear top seed from Skyward with San Huberto a narrow 3rd in front of Le Don De Vie.

What I really like about Ashrun (3.60) (in above tweet) is his turn of foot and the form lines he brings in around Call The Wind last start in the Prix Kergolay which has been a key lead up for International horses in the past with Americain and Dunaden running in that race before coming out here and winning the Geelong and Melbourne Cups.
Craig Williams going on is a tick as he has a great record in this race and Andreas Wohler knows what it takes to win races out here after claiming the Melbourne Cup with Protectionist in 2014.
Skyward has to be the danger based on his latest run in the Prix Foy where he was unsuited in a sit and sprint race that was won by Caulfield Cup runner up Anthony Van Dyck.
He has only had 7 starts and comes here in career best form.

The best of the locals is Adelaide Cup winner King Of Leogrance (9.50) (in above tweet), who despite being plain first up in the Turnbull can improve here 2nd up at 2400m.
Steel Prince (7.50and Sound (16.00were both enormous in the Bart Cummings but both horses haven't won in a while and this is a much stronger race than last start.
Entente (18.00could be the smokey as he will lead, is rock hard fit and has won his last two.
Reminds me a bit of Runaway who won this race for Gai and Adrian a couple years back when leading all the way.
My Market to 100 percent: Ashrun 4, Skyward 5.5, King Of Leogrance 8, Steel Prince 8, Sound 11, San Huberto 13, Le Don De Vie 13, Entente 16, Creedence 26, Platinum Invador 34.

Suggested Bet: Ashrun (3.60) (Win) and King Of Leogrance (9.50) (Win)

The rest of the card has some great races including the Geelong Classic and Black Pearl Stakes

Race 6
Geelong Classic (2200m)

Deep race with multiple winning chances.
At the prices happy enough to be with Rousseau (8.00) who had the SP over Ultimate Edition (3.40) last start and just gave him to big a head start over 1600m.
Step up to this distance looks ideal and expect money for him on the day.
Alcyone (3.90) (in above tweet) at his best would be the horse to beat but he is under the odds given his recent form.

Suggested Bet – Rousseau (8.00) (Win)

Race 8
Black Pearl Stakes

This race looks ideal for Xilong (3.90) (in above tweet) to get back in the winner’s circle.
She was good first up in the Northwood Plume Stakes behind Fiesta when fading late after doing a bit of work early.
She's fitter here and can bounce back to her best.
Think the price on offer is very appealing as her ratings are much better than these mares at the moment.
Music Bay (19.00) is the forgotten horse as she has a touch of class and has jumped out well in preparation for this.

Suggested Bet – Xilong (3.90) (Win)

Good luck punters and enjoy Geelong Cup day!
