Prof. Robert Furlongsworth’s Wednesday Racing May 18 Preview: Waller Star Eyeing Podium Finish At Randwick Kensington

“The extra distance figures to suit here and he’s drawn favourably on the inside with any drying out of the track also likely to be to his advantage.”

A gelding procedure proved the tonic for Chris Waller’s Podium (5.00) after he broke his maiden status with a handy win at Newcastle last month, responding well when asked for an extra effort by Lee Magorrian at the furlong mark to come away and win by more than two lengths.
The extra distance figures to suit here and he’s drawn favourably on the inside with any drying out of the track also likely to be to his advantage.
Duke Of Gordon (6.00) is chasing a hat-trick at what marks his metropolitan debut with the John O’Shea-trained 3YO relishing the heavy conditions when positing consecutive wins over the mile at Hawkesbury.
Toesonthenose (5.00) has left a bit in the bag recently after a comprehensive all-the-way effort at Hawkesbury first-up although it must be said he didn’t have much luck last time out having been blocked for a run at a crucial stage.
He’s another who may appreciate any improvement in track conditions but anticipate he may be a little soft in betting.
Brillar (8.50) has a wide draw to contend with but hasn’t been beaten all that far at his past two starts and drops 2kgs into this.

My Tip: Podium (5.00) (win)
