“He does look clearly the one to beat.”
Racecourse
Rosehill, Sydney
Race 8
Hobartville Stakes, 1400m
An enduring staple of the early autumn carnival, this Group 2 event for 3YOs has a handy recent honour roll and looks a strong race on paper once again.
Anamoe (1.65) (in below tweet) was among the vanquished in the Expressway first-up but the Cox Plate runner-up earned a clear pass mark for his performance, running on determinedly from the back to be beaten less than a length by Overpass on a track that favoured on-pace runners.
Trainer James Cummings seemed more than satisfied with the effort and keen to get him out over more ground, with the winner’s determined display behind Lost And Running last week also a solid pointer to his chances.
Interesting to see if the oddsmakers dangle a carrot and get out into the black, he does look clearly the one to beat.

Most of the other leading chances come out of the Eskimo Prince Stakes where Ranch Hand (12.00) (in below tweet) led home the chasing pack behind Paulele.
He’s taken a bit more time to mature but is another that seems ready for 1400m, although hard to see him toppling the favourite.

Converge (6.00) rarely runs a bad race and appears set for another sound preparation.
He’ll be ahead of Anamoe in the run and should give him something to get past.
My Tip: Anamoe (1.65) (win)

Race 6
Silver Slipper, 1100m
Earlier, a chance for a few Slipper hopefuls to put their best foot forward in this traditional lead-in race, which leaves the winner eligible for a $1 million bonus as one of the ‘pathway’ 2yo events.
Team Freedman filly Queen Of The Ball (2.50) (in below tweet) served notice of her capabilities in the Widden Stakes, winning by nearly four lengths in race record time.

No knock on her and she’s drawn to advantage but the track bias clearly played a role and with a fairer surface Ojai (8.00) (in below tweet) looks decent value to turn the tables.
The bay showcased a nice turn of foot to get the nod over her in the Kirkham Plate on debut and should be able to sit a little closer in the run this time.
Shalatin (7.00) makes his first appearance since November with trainer Joe Pride full of praise for his horse’s raw talent while the jury is out on Enhaar (9.50) after she overraced in the Widden and only beat one runner home.
My Tip: Ojai (8.00, 2.40) (each way)
