All great sports have a major global tournament and darts is no exception. In fact, the game has dual versions of the World Championship but the event run by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), is the biggest of the two.
Traditionally run over the Christmas period, the PDC tournament is a great social occasion too, with packed crowds in the festive mood. Unibet join in the fun with extensive betting markets across the world championships and, if you’d like to get involved, please check out our guide.
The very nature of the event guarantees that the best tungsten throwers in the world descend on Alexandra Palace in London in mid-December. Following a series of qualifying rounds, the players who make it through will be joined by the top 32 darters from the PDC Order of Merit.
The tournament will now begin and, from the first round through to the final, the eventual winner will have eight matches to negotiate. All of those matches will be played on a straight knockout basis and, at the start, the first player to win three sets will progress. The format lengthens as the world championships develop and, in the final, the first player to reach seven sets will be declared the winner.
Because this is the biggest prize in darts, interest is high and our outright world championship markets will be published some time ahead of the first day’s action. As the tournament comes closer and the first round draw is made, match betting will follow.
Darts is a sport with potential for a series of prop markets, so, for those who want to look away from the match result, the list of side bets can include options for total games and total sets.
