Including two and three runners per race and applying a 46c unit stake to his 54 individual combinations for a total spend of $24.84, our punter was up and running as Deecember broke through for an overdue win in the opening leg.

With Esprit Finale leading them a merry dance under Lucinda Doodt in Race 6, our punter was still in business and with both favourites in his pocket in the next, watched them run the quinella as Mutin edged out Mighty Quinn to lodge yet another win for Darren Weir.

Alive heading into the last, JD would have been delighted to see $21 poke Captain Smooth, in the hands of Frank Conlan at Kyneton, get the better of favourite Speak Softly in a tenacious finish, that result ensuring a final quadrella dividend of $4081.50 on STAB.

As a result, JD was $1877 better off for his troubles with plenty of ammunition for the rest of the racing week.
