Women’s Hockey Final – Betting Preview

August 19, 2016

This is it! The final showdown is upon us in a battle for the gold medal and bragging rights for the next four years that follow. Netherlands and Great Britain will face each other for a ‘winner takes all’ encounter and have rightly deserved a spot in the final as both teams proved to be too much to handle for their opponents. Betting on the women’s hockey final should be interesting as the Netherland will be looking to defend their title for the third consecutive time, but previous Bronze winners Great Britain have their own agenda and will try stop the Dutch team to avoid them making history yet again.

Betting on the Final

Netherlands and Great Britain came a long way to secure a spot in the final. 12 teams were split in two groups of six and both teams topped their group with ease. Netherlands are stepping into the final as the clear favourites with odds currently at 5/8 and 7/2 for Great Britain to take home the gold. Netherlands are also looking to become the first women's side to claim a fourth gold medal in hockey. They currently share the record of three with Australia.

Unsure on which team to bet on? Consider betting on over 3.5 goals and you’ll be celebrating every goal, regardless who scores. At the moment, the odds for over 3.5 goals stand at 6/5 and considering that both teams have great offensive players, it would make sense to bet on over 3.5 goals. Keep in mind that finals always tend to be a little tighter, especially in the beginning, as no one wants to concede  as this will change the dynamics of the game, forcing the opponent to advance forward, leaving gaps in the defence.

Netherlands are undefeated in six previous Olympic meetings with Great Britain (W4-D2). One of the two draws was decided after penalty strokes. The Dutch prevailed in the bronze medal match in  Atlanta in 1996.
