The Eredivisie returns for the new 2017/18 season on Friday night as ADO face Utrecht — and Dutch football betting fans can’t wait for it to kick off!
Most of us expect it to be a three-horse race for the Eredivisie title this season.
Feyenoord, Ajax and Eindhoven should all be battling for the honours come next summer. But there is also the European and relegation playoffs to fight for in the Dutch league.
So who will win on the first round of the new Eredivisie season? And what are the best tips when betting on Dutch football?
Bet on Ajax
Ajax have endured a mixed pre-season having lost some of their star players in big-money transfers. The same can be said of Feyenoord, while many believe Eindhoven have strengthened well.
Ajax start off away at Heracles and it is a match manager Marcel Keizer needs to win. This is his first season in charge of the club and they also have a tricky Europa League qualifying fixture with Rosenborg to contend with.
A routine win over Heracles is expected and Ajax are 1.45 to do just that. However, it might not be straightforward. The Rosenborg matches and their disappointment of losing to Nice in Champions League qualifying means Ajax’s focus is not on the domestic front right now.
Ajax need to get into Europe and are 1.33 to go through against Rosenborg. But that means possibly sacrificing resources at the start of the Eredivisie season. They should beat Heracles but not by much. Both teams to score at 1.90 is a great price.
Bet on Dutch football
Other matches to keep an eye out for this week involve Eindhoven and Feyenoord. Former champions Eindhoven, who failed so meekly to defend their title last season, are second favourites at 2.50 to win it this year.
They host AZ Alkmaar on the first match of the season on Saturday and are 1.35 to win. Those are terribly slim odds for a team that underperformed last year. AZ have lost some decent players, with Ridgeciano Haps heading to Feyenoord and Eindhoven themselves picking up one of their academy gems. But they aren’t as bad as their price suggests. At 8.00 to win, AZ are worth putting a little bet on.
As for Feyenoord, they start at home to FC Twente and should be worth adding to any combination bet. They are 1.25 to beat Twente and, while they have lost two good players in Eljero Elia and Terence Kongolo, they’ve bought well enough and should have no problem here.
