Eredivisie Round Four betting: Bet on Ajax and Feyenoord

September 7, 2017

Saturday sees Ajax and Feyenoord both in action in the Eredivisie and Dutch betting fans should seriously consider adding both teams to a combination bet!

Defending champions Feyenoord have started their Eredivisie campaign as strongly as they left off. The Rotterdam side have won three out of three and sit top of the table alongside Eindhoven.

Meanwhile, Ajax have recovered from their shock defeat to Heracles on the opening day of the Eredivisie season to post back-to-back wins. The Lancieri have had to juggle domestic and European games so far this summer and are only now getting into their groove after losing a host of top stars in the transfer window.

Bet on Feyenoord

Feyenoord face Ajax’s conquerors Heracles on Saturday and Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men will be hoping to stifle their hosts before their get their hopes up of another shock.

Heracles upset the Dutch football betting odds last month but don’t expect them to do so again this weekend. Since that win over Ajax they have drawn two games, against Heerenveen and Excelsior. In both instances they surrendered the lead. Last season what cost Heracles was a defence that would often switch off in crunch games. Again, they have proven flaky here. They may be punching above their weight sitting in mid-table but that won’t help them against Feyenoord.

Feyenoord are 1.48 to beat Heracles and should do just that. New signing Steven Berghuis is finally settled alongside Nicolai Jorgensen and the duo look the most dangerous attacking partnership in the Netherlands. Jorgensen returns from international duty with Denmark having scored in the 4-0 romp over Portugal. He will return to domestic action this weekend fresh and seeking goals, so is a good bet to score first.

Bet on Ajax

Ajax host the Eredivisie’s surprise team of the season so far in Zwolle on Saturday evening. While Ajax have laboured to get going on the domestic front, Zwolle have shown us all how it's done. Dutch football odds checkers may be surprised to see they are as long as 13.00 to beat Ajax. That is despite Zwolle sitting fourth in the league after beating Roda and Twente convincingly.

The 2-0 win over Twente was a massive result for Zwolle. Optimism abounds and there is real hope they can put in a good season this term. Defender Bram van Polen has already scored twice this season. The club work hard on their set-pieces and take their chances when they are offered to them.

Ajax must not slip up here and not take Zwolle for granted. Defensively they’ve been a mess at times this season. That’s not good for a team fighting for the Dutch title and also determined to compete in Europe.

This is a bit of a transitional year for Ajax after their superb European run last year saw their best players depart in the summer. But the expectation remains from the Ajax fans: they must compete for the title.

Ajax are 1.22 to beat Zwolle. That is a price not worth backing on its own, but instead as part of a combination bet.

Bet on the Eredivisie

Elsewhere in the Eredivisie we have winless pair Sparta and Twente going up against each other. Sparta boast two draws from three games but the alarms are ringing at Twente. There defeats from three is not good enough for a team whose remit is to challenge for the European places in the Eredivisie.

Twente are conceding on average two goals per game. They lost a number of players in the summer but did a lot of recruitment too. However, like Heracles, more focus was put on the midfield and attack rather than defence. It’s cost them two goals per game so far. Home side Sparta are 2.25 to beat Twente.

The only other team with a 100 per cent record this season is Eindhoven, who play Heerenveen on Sunday. Eindhoven are averaging three goals per game in the Eredivisie and have no European football to play this season. They are 1.58 to beat Heerenveen and 2.75 to win the Eredivisie.
