Eredivisie Round Five: All the best bets and odds in the Dutch top flight

September 6, 2016

Can anyone stop Feyenoord? The men from Rotterdam have set the pace in the Eredivisie this season with four wins from four.

Feyenoord top the Dutch league ahead of champions Eindhoven and could make it five wins on the bounce against ADO this weekend.

Meanwhile, at the bottom, five teams are still yet to win a game this season. But some, like Roda, are at least capable of scraping draws when they need to.

Every point counts and the Eredivisie is already shaping up to be a intriguing contest this season. So let’s take a look at the Eredivisie betting tips for round five.

Feyenoord v ADO: Expect goals in Rotterdam

Feyenoord’s rise to the top this season was not unexpected. They invested well in the summer — Nicolai Jørgensen being a particularly good buy — and retained their star men. Dirk Kuyt’s commitment for another year was also a major boost. Feyenoord have already scored 12 goals this season, averaging three a game.

Meanwhile, ADO are perhaps the surprise package of the league so far. They are level with Eindhoven on 10 points — two off Feyenoord — and were it not for a disappointing 1-1 draw at Heracles before the international break they would be joint top. ADO are far grittier than their opponents and like to keep things tight. They cannot afford to play the expansive game Giovanni van Bronckhorst likes to undertake in Rotterdam and subsequently both teams have scored in three of ADO’s four outings.

Feyenoord will almost certainly score at home against a defence that hasn’t quite sorted itself out yet. But with Mike Havenaar and Gervane Kastaneer in good goalscoring form already, ADO certainly pose a threat.

Tip: Over 3.5 goals at 2.28

Ajax v Vitesse: One side will emerge victorious

Ajax and Vitesse boast one of the strangest records in Dutch football. They have met 48 times in their history, yet have drawn just twice. Ajax boast the greater form (W31 D2 L15) and are 1.50 favourites to win this clash.

Indeed, recent form suggests the Lancieri should get one over on their top-five opponents. Ajax have won three of the last four games between these two sides, which includes a 1-0 home win in this fixture last season. Youngster Riechedly Bazoer scored the winner that day and he has helped Ajax get off to a good start this season.

Ajax have already played eight games this season due to their participation in Europa League qualification. They average over two goals a game and are 2.20 to score in both halves. But Unibet punters should have faith in Vitesse to make a game of this. The Arnheim club have scored exactly once in their three games since a 4-1 victory over Willem II on the opening day of the season. Vitesse could just as equally win this clash as Ajax, while history suggests a draw is doubtful.

Tip: Double Chance on Ajax or Vitesse to win at 1.22

Zwolle v Utrecht: First goal crucial for strugglers

Between them, Zwolle and Utrecht have played eight games without a win. It already looks as though they will be battling relegation at the end of the season and that’s not good for their fans. However, it is good for Eredivisie betting punters as they are more predictable against the more successful teams in the league.

When two out-of-form clubs meet it can be tricky to gauge how the game will pan out. Zwolle have scored just once all season, conceding nine goals. But Utrecht are hardly scoring for fun at the moment either, with five goals and seven conceded.

The lack of goals is a worry for Zwolle but they can take encouragement from Utrecht’s terrible starts to games this season. They have conceded first and been losing at half time in three of their four matches so far. Granted, they fought back to earn draws with Heerenveen and Vitesse after being in losing positions. But if home side Zwolle are to get anything from this game they need to first goal. And at 1.81 that isn’t a bad shout considering Utrecht’s form.

Tip: Zwolle to score first at 1.81. No goal, no bet.
