Eredivisie Predictions: Best Dutch fotobalk bets for 2017

January 5, 2017

2017 could be a big year for the Eredivisie. Feyenoord are going strong in the league this season, making the title race a fascinating encounter.

But both Ajax and Eindhoven could spend big money over the next two transfer windows to ensure they are in a position to challenge the Rotterdam club.

Meanwhile, the relegation playoffs promise to be fascinating, especially with VVV, MVV and Volendam all going strong in Dutch second division.

So what can we expect from the Eredivisie in 2017? Let’s take a look at the biggest bets for the year to come.

Feyenoord to win the title

This is definitely on. Feyenoord may have stuttered in recent weeks after a blistering start to their campaign but they remain good for the title. They are five points ahead of Ajax at the top of the table and were scoring for fun when the winter break came.

The stats are ridiculous. Feyenoord have scored 47 goals in 17 games already this season. Sixteen of those have come in their last four outings. Striker Nicolai Jørgensen has adapted superbly to Dutch football since his transfer from FC Copenhagen last summer. Meanwhile, Eljero Elia is justifying his decision to remain at the club after almost leaving at the start of the season.

They don’t have any European distractions anymore and would certainly sacrifice the KNVB Cup to win the league. Feyenoord are 1.85 to win the title and a good bet at that.

Ajax pushing for second

Ajax may only be five points behind Feyenoord and of course are pushing for the title. But if they can secure a Champions League spot for next season and stop Eindhoven coming within the top two then many fans will be happy with that. Ajax have had an off season. Their forward line has struggled at times and this could cost them.

Ajax are 3.00 to win the title and you can’t get odds on a top-four finish. Looking at next season, Ajax are of course likely to be battling for the title come the end of 2017. They are one of the powerhouses in Dutch football and should be treated as such.

Netherlands relegation betting

The scrap at the bottom of the Eredivisie has been going on since Week One. Zwolle, Excelsior and Roda have all endured stints at the bottom of the table. Go Ahead Eagles are currently propping up the table after a string of poor performances.

Go Ahead were boosted by a 1-1 draw at Groningen before the Christmas break and there is hope in the side. They may be losing games but they’re not being outplayed. We saw in the 1-0 defeat at Eindhoven that this side can battle for points even when the odds are against them.

Go Ahead could easily finish bottom of the Eredivisie and when you look around the league there are certainly candidates that could drop below them. Den Haag are plummeting after a great start to the campaign and face Heerenveen and Ajax before January is out.

Zwolle have the worst defensive record in the league and appear intent on playing their way out of trouble, although 13 goals scored so far this season is alarming. The smart punter may want to side with Zwolle to finish bottom unless then strengthen in the January transfer window.

Dirk Kuyt betting

How is Dirk Kuyt still going? The 36-year-old has scored six goals this season, helping Feyenoord claim 11 points in the league. He is 2.10 to score +12.5 goals for the club and we’re only halfway through the season.

This is a great bet considering Feyenoord now don’t have European obligations to deal with. They can therefore afford to throw everything at the league and Kuyt will benefit from not playing two games a week.
