Eredivisie Betting — Round 25 Best Bets

February 27, 2017

The Rotterdam derby takes place this weekend with Sparta hosting Feyenoord in the Eredivisie.

And Dutch football betting fans are already heavily siding with Feyenoord to claim a comfortable win here.

Feyenoord are going strong as they seek their first Dutch league title in almost two decades. They have just 10 games to go and have no European or KNVB Cup distractions.

The will they slip up against Sparta?

Sparta v Feyenoord: The Rotterdam derby

There is less that 10km in distance between Sparta and Feyenoord but the gulf in the Eredivisie is huge. While Sparta fight against relegation, Feyenoord are battling for the title. It’s been a long time since Sparta won the championship but last season’s Eerste Divisie title holders are determined to stay in the top flight.

Unfortanately for Sparta, they will have to wait to fight an easier battle in their pursuit of points this spring. That’s because Feyenoord should win this fixture comfortably. Star striker Nicolai Jørgensen is in top form, with talisman Dirk Kuyt continuing to defy his age. Feyenoord beat Sparta 6-1 in the reverse fixture back in December and don’t be surprised if that happens again.

Feyenoord were clinical that day, converting six of their eight shots on target. But Sparta played into their hands by attacking as hard as possible themselves. Thomas Verhaar deservedly got a goal at De Kuip for the minnows that day but Sparta were punished for lapse defending.

On Sunday Dutch football betting enthusiasts should expect more goals — and possible from both teams again. The last time Sparta hosted Feyenoord was back in 2009 when they beat their rivals 2-1. In fact, Sparta have won their last three home Rotterdam derbies.

Both teams to score here is probably the best bet, with Feyenoord’s odds to win too slim to worth bothering with unless it’s on a combination bet.

Outside of Rotterdam, Eindhoven have what should be a straight-forward home clash against relegation-threatened Roda. They, like Feyenoord, should be on your combination bet.

But if you’re seeking a result bet then Groningen v Ajax could be the match to watch. Ajax have scored exactly two goals in five of their last six meetings with Groningen — and in the sixth, Groningen won the game 2-0. It may be worth backing Ajax to win 2-0 here.
