Betting on the Champions League – Match day 2

September 25, 2017

The elite are back and for another dramatic mid-week football special and we can feel the electricity in the air from all the upcoming clashes. The big dogs of the Champions League wasted no time collecting points – all wanting to finish in first place to have a slightly easier route (in theory) in the knock-out stages. Borussia Dortmund will host to Los Blancos on Tuesday night as they search of their first group-stage win in this season's competition. Chelsea will find it hard to replicate their 6-0 victory over Qarabağ as they travel to Madrid to face Diego Simeone’s men. Napoli are still searching for their first point and will host Dutch Champions Feyenoord to kick-start their campaign. We’ll look at the biggest games of the Champions League to discover the best and most sensible bets you should be considering when betting on the Champions League.

Bet on Borussia Dortmund vs Madrid

Los Blancos lead Group H after beating APOEL Nicosia in what many Champions league betting fans considered a routine win and are now sitting level on three points with Tottenham Hotspur. These sides met in the group stage of last season's Champions League too and both encounters ended two apiece. The reigning European champions are under unnecessary pressure to perform in Germany following a mixed start to the 2017-18 season.

Madrid are the slight favourites in Germany with odds priced at 2.40 to collect another three points while BVB’s are still searching for their first win after coming up short against Tottenham. BVB is priced at 2.90 to overcome Los Blancos and 1.62 for the Germans not to lose the match (double chance betting on Dortmund). As mentioned above, both sides met in the group stages last season and although the Germans finished the group in first place, both encounters finished in a draw. Odds for another draw are priced at 3.80 but betting on goals might be a safer option as both teams play an offensive game.

Both teams to score is priced at 1.38 while one team, or none, have odds of 2.95. Over 2.5 goals is not well priced either, having odds of 1.42.

Both teams have players missing the encounter at the Westfalenstadion, with Karim Benzema and Marcelo missing from the Los Blancos line-up with muscular injuries. Raphael Guerreiro and Andre Schurrle have also been sidelined for almost the entire season while Marco Reus is still recovering from a ruptured cruciate ligament.

Keep in mind that BVB have never lost on home soil to Madrid, but will they keep up this record?

Bet on Paris vs Bayern Munich

This encounter will have millions of football fans across the globe glued to their TV to experience two of the greatest giants in football battle it out for three important points. Carlo Ancelotti returns to one of his former clubs as Bayern Munich look for their next three points of their Champions League campaign.

Paris have the odds in their favour to beat Bayern on home soil, priced at 1.95, however, betting on goals might be a more viable option. Paris are equipped with the most expensive player in the World in their arsenal and have proved that they’re a top contender for any competition they participate in and the Champions League is no different.

Both teams to score doesn’t have the most lucrative odds at 1.36, however, over 3.5 goals is priced at 2.05 and this encounter has the potential to turn into a goal bonanza.

The last time these two teams met was in 2000/01, the year Bayern went on to lift the title.

Bet on Atletico Madrid vs Chelsea

Atletico Madrid are still searching for their first win in this campaign after they were held in Rome two weeks ago. The Premier League Champions Chelsea are off to a blistering start with their thrashing of the Azerbaijan side Qarabağ.

Antonio Conte’s side will likely see a familiar face – Diego Costa – who’s transfer saga has caused a stir in Chelsea’s build-up to the campaign, but both sides have agreed on terms for the move of the Spanish International.

Diego Simeone’s men are the clear favourites to collect all three points at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano with odds set at 2.20. Should Chelsea emerge victorious against the Spanish giants, they’ll be in total cruise control and it’s safe to say that they’ll have one foot deeply cemented in the knock-out stages.

If you can’t see Chelsea lose their next Champions League encounter, you should consider double chance betting on the Blues as odds are priced at 1.71 – a great price to add to your Champions League accumulator bet.

Courtois will be fine to face his old side on Wednesday, despite landing heavily during Saturday’s victory at Stoke City.
