Feyenoord suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at title rivals Eindhoven last week but maintained their grip at the top of the Eredivisie table, while Ajax continued their mixed start to the campaign with a draw at ADO.
Dutch football betting fans had Ajax down to beat ADO and join the big boys at the top of the table. But the Lancieri have found life without some of their top stars difficult in recent weeks. The summer transfer window was not kind to Ajax and they are still rebuilding after selling a number of players.
As for Feyenoord, their defeat at Eindhoven coupled with the 5-0 loss to Manchester City in the Champions League has rocked the boat in Rotterdam. Giovanni van Bronckhorst will want a reaction this weekend.
Bet on Ajax
Ajax are 1.26 to beat Vitesse, which is slim odds considering how both sides have started this season. Ajax’s draw with ADO last weekend is damning. They have won just three games in nine this term — all of them against lowly Dutch opposition.
Ajax face a Vitesse side this weekend buoyed by strong early results and a summer transfer window in which they again benefitted from loaning players from the Premier League. Last weekend’s 1-1 draw with VVV was a bit of a surprise but came after a Thursday night defeat to Lazio in the Europa League, so is not so shocking given that context.
Vitesse are 10.00 to beat Ajax and that is a great price considering both sides have had exactly the same start in the league so far (W3 D1 L1).
Theo one thing that may swing it in Ajax’s favour is the sheer amount of shots per game they produce. Ajax have averaged 24 shots per Eredivisie outing this season, with Vitesse down at 14.6. A 2-1 win for the hosts is a fair shout.
Bet on Utrecht v Eindhoven
Possibly the biggest match of the weekend is Sunday’s clash between Utrecht and Eindhoven. Utrecht started very positively this season as they balance domestic and European duties but three defeats in four is alarming. They were smashed 4-0 at Twente last weekend, a result few Dutch football betting experts were expecting!
Eindhoven, meanwhile, got that crucial win over Feyenoord to banish the nightmare of defeat to Heerenveen the week before. Eindhoven like to keep matches tight — both teams have scored in only two of their seven outings so far.
But with Utrecht’s leaky defence this could be a big win for Eindhoven if the manager sets them up with a bit more attacking flair that what faced Feyenoord last week. Eindhoven are good to win at 1.85.
Bet on the Eredivisie
Elsewhere in the Eredivisie this weekend we have a buoyant FC Twente travelling to Groningen. Twente were as stunned as Utrecht with the 4-0 win last weekend and this may be the boost they need to start climbing the table. Groningen have had an average start to the season (W1 D2 L2) but are winless in two games. They have scored in all five of their outings but Twente are a good price at 3.90 to win this match.
Feyenoord will look to recover from the defeat to Eindhoven with a win over NAC, which should be put on your weekend football combination bet at 1.15.
Two of the biggest surprises of the Eredivisie season so far, VVV and Zwolle, meet on Sunday and a draw at 3.40 here is probably the smart choice. Venlo are proving tougher to break down than people first imagined, while Zwolle have proved a real force at home this season. They should be able to grab a point on the road this weekend.
