The Eredivisie title race is entering the final stretch and the top three are well clear of the chasing pack.
Feyenoord remain favourites in the Dutch football betting markets to with the Eredivisie for the first time since 1999. Ajax and Eindhoven are going strong, however, and still have a chance of clawing back ground against the Rotterdam side.
Meanwhile, the Golden Boot battle is also hotting up, with a host of players hoping Feyenoord’s Nicolai Jørgensen has a blip somewhere in the spring.
Here are the best Dutch title betting tips and top goalscorers.
Bet on Feyenoord to win the title
Feyenoord have been rampant this season and so far deserve to win the title. They remain ahead of Ajax, with defending champions Eindhoven in a sorry third place. Feyenoord have not rode their luck to reach the top. They have systematically dominated the league this season. A formidable defence ensured they got off to a blistering start to their title campaign and, while that has softened somewhat, Feyenoord remain excellent in the forward areas.
Feyenoord are 1.65 to win the title and those odds are only going to slim as the games reduce. Ajax, out at 3.15, and plugging away in an desperate attempt to overhaul the gap. Ajax have in fact had a wonderful season after an early blip — but it is this blip that has cost them. They have matched Feyenoord’s consistency almost all season but’s that’s still not been enough.
As for Eindhoven (5.00 to win the title), Dutch betting tipsters have them to finish third and miss out on a Champions League place. They simply haven’t had the firepower up front this season and have only recently started to find the net regularly. Too many draws for Eindhoven and they are out of the title race.
Bet on Eredivisie Golden Boot
Jørgensen has been a breath of fresh air in Dutch football this season, arriving from Danish side FC Copenhagen and immediately impressing at De Kuip. The strong, rangy Danish striker is the complete package on his day and with 15 goals is 1.65 to win the Golden Boot.
But he does have competitions. Heerenveen’s Reza Ghoochanneijhad (14) has hit top form since Christmas, scoring four goals in January alone, and is 6.00 to win the Golden Boot. That would take some doing and Heerenveen have a tough end of season — including games against Feyenoord and Ajax. But Ghoochanneijhad has proven himself since arriving at Charlton and may not be a bad bet here.
Other contenders are AZ’s Wout Weghorst (10), who at 24 is finally showing his potential at Alkmaar and is 8.00 to topple Jørgensen from his perch. A flurry since November puts Weghorst in contention. But don’t back FC Twente’s Ends Unai (12) — on loan from Manchester City — to win the coveted prize as his goals have dried up in recent weeks after a strong start to the season.
Eredivisie Best Bets — Round 26
The fixtures this weekend are not exactly inspiring and punters can expect title chasers Feyenoord, Ajax and Eindhoven all the get three points. However, there were shocks last weekend with Feyenoord losing the Rotterdam derby to Sparta and Ajax drawing with Groningen.
Feyenoord will need someone like Jørgensen to help them past AZ in possibly the tightest match involving one of the Big Three this weekend. Ajax host Twente, who beat the Lancieri 1-0 in this reverse fixture back in December. Expect Ajax to win this game, however.
Eindhoven’s trip to Go Ahead Eagles could also be a banana skin but if the defending champions have any designs of even making the top two this season than this is a must-win game.
If you’re looking for goals then stay away from Friday night’s game between Vitesse and Sparta. Just seven goals have been scored in the last five fixtures between these two sides. Vitesse beat Sparta 1-0 away back in December and don’t be surprised by a repeat scoreline.
